Day 20 Continued

Saint Elias Mountains, British Columbia.

A stop was made at this pass to take a break. The temperature had dropped significantly and I was getting very cold. By the time I reached Haines a few hours later I was shivering.

Heading home. The sign was revised the previous night in Tok.

I boarded the Malaspina of the Alaska Marine Highway at Haines, AK. Since I was a standby passenger, I had to move the motorcycle at the 2 A.M. stop at Juneau so departing passengers could get around it. Then it was secured for the rest of the ferry trip.

Nearly exhausted, I carried the tank bag and the sleeping bag upstairs to the solarium, where I slept on a lounge chair. The solarium had radiant electric heaters mounted on the ceiling. The heat felt great. After a few hours huddled in the sleeping bag under the heaters I finally relaxed and felt warm again.
