US 93 S to Missoula, MT; I-90 E about twelve miles to Turah, MT.
Weather: Overcast until just south of Eureka, MT. Heavy thunderstorms prevailed the remainder of the day. Temperature was in the low 60 degrees F.
I had to take a detour onto a one lane dirt road due to highway construction for about 10 miles just north of Whitefish. I was boxed in a long string of cars with nowhere to pull off when a major thunderstorm passed over with pea-sized hail. The hail ricocheting off the helmet sounded like popcorn popping, and my knuckles stung when the pellets hit.
My original plans were to visit Glacier National Park, but after consulting a weather map that forecast heavy rains for many days to come I decided to ride southward instead. The park would be visited on a future trip.
