Weather: Sunny and extremely hot. Temperature was 110 degrees F for most of the afternoon.

Shade was scarce for most of the ride across Oklahoma.

I rode with my jacket and leather gloves on for protection from the intense sun. It felt as if I were riding through a blast furnace. Stops were made about every half hour to consume fluids.

It was long after dark when I stopped riding for the day. All night long the temperature never went below 100 degrees F and everything felt sticky. The tent window flaps were all opened in an attempt to catch what little breeze there was; I slept on top of the sleeping bag.
