2008 Alaska Trip

Revised 4-07-2008

Several folks from the Honda CX500 and GL500 forum are planning to take a motorcycle trip to Alaska in 2008.

The riders will not be traveling as one big group; instead, there will be smaller groups of riders with individual schedules and routes. This is not a formally organized trip; it is a group of friends on a very loosely coordinated (but long!) ride. If someone wants to ride off on their own that is perfectly acceptable and there will be no hard feelings. Similarly, if someone breaks down the rest of the group is free to push on, if they desire, without any guilt feelings. The participants are all big boys (some bigger than others) and should be able to take care of themselves. (Thanks for the eloquent words, Gene!)

At the time of this writing, the group consists of

DaveNearAtlanta (Lawrenceville, GA)
Don in Oz (Melbourne, Australia)
drneo (Duluth, MN)
Gene McCall (Murfreesboro, TN)
JB in SC (Irmo, SC)
Jerry W (Lithia Springs, GA)
R80Dave (Appleton, WI)

I planned to participate but had to cancel due to other obligations. Maybe next year - we'll see.

If you're interested in joining in, you should make arrangements to attend one or more of the CX/GL get-togethers so you can get to know the other participants. You won't find a friendlier bunch of folks anywhere. However, if you have no experience with long-distance touring, a trip of this magnitude would be a bit much to start with.

I took a solo motorcycle trip to Alaska in 1990 and it is documented here.

This web page will be updated as details are finalized.
