The stock front
suspension and steering will be replaced with a Mustang II style independent
front suspension (IFS) kit, most likely purchased from
Rod and Custom Motorsports. Several
TFFN members have used their kits with excellent results. The Mustang II IFS is a superb design that is extremely popular with street rod hobbyists. It features disc brakes, rack and pinion steering (manual or power), and a hefty support crossmember that the engine mounts to. Its popularity is evidenced by its widespread aftermarket support. Installing this kit in the Falcon will involve cutting out the shock towers and welding in parts from the kit. The basic process is shown/described here and here and here and here. This may seem like a lot of work but it is one of the most important modifications towards making the Falcon handle like a modern car. A significant side benefit of this modification is the elimination of the shock towers, thus providing much more room under the hood for installation of items such as headers. |
