This initial leg to Lubbock covers approximately 1300 miles and is spread over several days.
After riding for many years I finally joined the ranks of those wearing
protective riding gear. The jacket and pants are made of Kevlar with a mesh
weave to allow airflow. Even so, it still gets hot if the ambient temperature
is over 90F. A thorough soaking with a garden hose provides relief.
Leaving home.
After about 180 miles the left mirror went limp. I use this mirror a lot so
its repair was essential.
At the Oak Mountain State Park, AL campground that evening I used some
JBWeld epoxy to fix the mirror to a permanent position. It can no longer be
adjusted but it is set correctly for me.

I saw Miles and Miles of Texas (apologies to Bob Wills).
The ride across Texas was very hot with temperatures well over 100F. About once an hour I would stop at a convenience store and saturate my T-shirt under the mesh jacket with water. This would keep me comfortable until the water evaporated.
